New to Scurry & Trials Driving?

Scurry and Trials Driving is one of the most exciting disciplines in carriage driving. Competitors navigate a course of obstacles and cones against the clock, with penalties added for knocked balls. The fastest competitor wins.

Why Compete with BSTD?

British Scurry and Trials Driving welcomes competitors of all ages and abilities. With classes ranging from Novice through to Championship level, and opportunities for singles, pairs, teams and junior drivers, BSTD provides a supportive environment for both newcomers and experienced competitors.

Do I need to be a member to compete?

Yes, you need to be a full member of the BSTD to compete. Membership form can be found under competitor resources.

Do I need insurance?

Yes, you need sufficient public liability insurance to cover you for timed events.

I don't have a driving pony, but I'd still like to get involved. Can I?

Absolutely! BSTD is always keen to welcome new people to the sport. There are plenty of ways to get involved before owning your own turnout, including:

Volunteering at events
Learning from experienced competitors
Helping as a groom
Assisting with course building and event setup
Joining us at practice days and training events

Many competitors started by helping at events and learning about the sport before eventually driving themselves.

I've never competed before. Can I still enter?

Absolutely. BSTD welcomes new and novice competitors and offers classes suitable for a range of experience levels.

What carriage can I compete with?

Competitors may use either a traditional scurry carriage or a three-phase marathon/competition vehicle. For safety reasons, two-wheeled vehicles are not permitted in BSTD competition classes. However, exceptions may be considered for those wishing to have a go. These requests will be assessed on an individual basis and should be discussed with BSTD prior to entering.

If you are unsure whether your vehicle is suitable, please contact BSTD and we will be happy to advise.

I'm interested in sponsoring BSTD. Who do I contact?

We'd love to hear from you. Please contact the BSTD team to discuss sponsorship opportunities ranging from class sponsorship to championship and series partnerships.

I'm interested in BSTD appearing at my event. What should I do?

We're always keen to work with agricultural shows, country fairs, equestrian events and other suitable venues across the UK.

BSTD provides an exciting, fast-paced attraction that is popular with both competitors and spectators. Our displays can be tailored to suit a variety of events, from one-day shows to large multi-day agricultural events.
