British Scurry and Trials Driving is the official governing body of this fast-paced and exhilarating sport, established in 2012. Since our founding, we’ve proudly showcased the sport at more than 100 events across the UK, promoting inclusivity and excitement for all ages and abilities. Over 200 different turnouts have taken part in our competitions — from juniors to seasoned drivers in their 80s. We celebrate a diverse range of entries including miniature ponies, single ponies, pairs both small and large, tandems, teams, and even horses, making our sport as inclusive as it is thrilling.
At British Scurry and Trials Driving, we truly have a class for everyone — from experienced veterans to first-time competitors, rescue ponies getting a fresh start, and everything in between. We celebrate diversity in both drivers and turnouts, offering a welcoming environment for all.
Our standard classes include:
Some shows may also offer additional classes such as:
No matter your experience level or the size of your turnout, there's a place for you in the BSTD community.
Our Novice League is the perfect place to start. Designed as a low-pressure, supportive introduction to the sport, it allows novice turnouts to compete against others at a similar level while building consistency, confidence, and experience. There’s even the chance to win your entry fee back!
For full details and the registration forms you’ll need, visit our How to Get Involved page.
Our Grand League runs throughout the season, allowing competitors to accumulate points at each event they attend. Points contribute toward end-of-season awards, with overall champions crowned in each class based on consistent performance across the year.
Competitors are welcome to stay on-site at events provided that appropriate penning or stabling is available for their ponies. Those living locally may also arrive on the day of competition, but must be on site by 9:00 AM due to safety regulations and movement restrictions at the showgrounds — particularly at county shows (please refer to each show's individual rules for guidance).
All turnouts must use modern, well-maintained, four-wheeled vehicles that are suitable for the sport. Both scurry carts and driving trials vehicles are permitted. Please note that ponies must be a minimum of four years old to compete in any class.
